VE Day Celebrations Omagh

The ‘Abingdon Collection’ in conjunction with Omagh U3A and ‘ Rustic Runway’ will be running a major exhibition and drama event in Omagh Library on Wednesday 6th May concentrating on the ‘Home Front’ in Northern Ireland during World War Two.

Many events are being staged throughout Northern Ireland on the 8th May Bank holiday and the organisers are running this event early, so as not to clash with other events and allow local people and school groups the opportunity to learn more about this important period in our history.
The ‘Abingdon Collection’ will be putting on a major exhibition on the Home Front including uniforms, militaria, toys, radios, newspapers, posters, advertising, household items and original vintage 1940’s clothing will be on display from Omagh’s well known ‘Rustic Runway’ vintage shop. The main exhibition will run from 11.00 am until 8.00 pm and this will be enhanced by performances at 3.00 pm and 7.00pm from local actors and writers.

A rehearsed reading of an original, one act play called ‘Home Fronts’ will be performed by members of the Omagh U3A while other readings will provide stories, poems and insights into a period of hope, reflection, great sadness and turmoil for many families following World War Two.
There will also be an opportunity for people to bring in items of interest from the period and to record family memories.
