  2. Lookout Hill Loop

    Mulranny, Mayo

A-B. Leaving the trailhead near the pier, follow the green (and purple) arrows along the surfaced road. The purple arrows are for the longer Bunnahowna Loop. After 300m the road swings right - but you proceed straight ahead onto an old laneway. Climb the hill, veer left at a house on a Y-junction, and follow the road through a crossroads. After 200m watch for a waymarker which directs you to the right and off road on to a fence along the back of forestry. Follow the fence for 500m to exit again onto a surfaced road where you turn left. After 100m pass the church and school and cross the N59 onto a woodland track.

B-C. Follow the track uphill to join a forestry roadway and turn left. Continue to follow the green and purple arrows before turning right and ascending to the top of Lookout Hill. Enjoy the views before descending to join the old railway line where both the blue and purple loops turn left - but you turn right.

C-D. Continue to follow the old railway line for 300m to reach old railway buildings where you turn right and descend to the front of a hotel and cross the N59 again onto steps down to Trawoughter Strand.

D-A. Descend the steps and join the causeway across the strand and enjoy the last 300m back to the trailhead.
