This exhibition features medieval tower houses around Strangford Lough.
Tower houses are found throughout the island of Ireland in great numbers and often combine the roles of residence, stronghold and status symbol.
The eastern part of County Down has one of the largest concentrations of surviving tower houses in the country and Strangford Lough, in particular, has a considerable number. There are 21 in the area, of which 16 are on the shores of the Lough. Find out more about why and how they were built and what it would have been like to live in a tower house in this exhibition.
