Anthony Trollope was a Victorian novelist who worked with the postal system in Ireland in the 1840s. He got the inspiration for his very first novel 'The Macdermots of Ballycloran' while staying in Drumsna in 1843 and to quote President Mary Mc Aleese 'something happened to his soul here'. The novel (although fiction) was based on well known characters and mentions many places that are still in this area today.
Trollope went on to write up to 47 books including the Barchester Chronicles. This summer school is a tribute to the novelist and includes lectures, discussions, a banquet and more. The opening ceremony will be performed by the Chairp of Leitrim County Council with a reception and registration on Friday.
Saturday morning starts with registration followed by lectures given by well known Trollope admirers and speakers. Lunch will be served at the Bake House, Drumsna with a Trollope themed menu! The afternoon continues with discussions and chat about Trollope's book 'An Eye for an Eye'. That night, the Trollope banquet takes place in The Bush Hotel with guest speaker. The weekend finishes on Sunday with a walk along the beautiful Trollope trail and on to Ballycloran.
