The 35th Airtricity Dublin Marathon takes place through the capital's historic Georgian streets and its magnificent Phoenix Park. Thousands of boisterous spectators will line the route and in fact, such is the buzz from the crowd, that overseas participants in the Dublin Marathon have dubbed it the 'friendly marathon'.
The course is largely flat, a single lap and starts and finishes in the city centre. Conditions for marathon running are ideal as the average temperatures for October are around 12°– 14° C (53°– 57°F). Dublin is only an hour by air from most U.K and European cities and a large number of the expected entry of 14,500 will be made up of overseas runners, many of whom will be returning to sample Irish hospitality once more.
On the Sunday morning before Marathon Monday, the International Breakfast Run is held. Free of charge to those participating in the marathon, it is a chance to stretch your legs, meet other athletes, exchange t-shirts and enjoy a complimentary breakfast to a background of Irish traditional music. Participants also receive a special commemorative t-shirt. For further details or entry, please see the website.
