On the 2nd & 3rd November, in Kells, Hinterland presents Samhain–5,000 years of Food & Culture, in conjunction with Boyne Valley Flavours. Much loved food personalities will present, celebrate & debate our relationship with food through the years
The highly successful Hinterland festival, which takes place over the last weekend in June each year in Kells, Co. Meath, is branching in conjunction with Boyne Valley Flavours to celebrate food and culture this November in Kells to co-incide with ‘Taste the Island’ campaign
Hinterland presents Samhain – 5,000 years of Food & Culture, in conjunction with Boyne Valley Flavours a two-day festival which will take place in Kells on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of November 2019. Michelin Chefs, Food Writers, international visitors and much loved personalities of Irish food will come to Kells to present, celebrate, and debate our relationship with food down through the ages and into the future.
The newly opened Kells Courthouse will provide an arena for debate and discussion with some really exciting panelists and presenters on subjects such as ‘Ireland the Island Nation – our relationship with the sea’, ‘The impact of key figures on Irish food and a look at ‘What are we eating now’? Headfort Arms will host a demo stage bringing forgotten skills to life, shining the light on food trends and providing the backdrop for Intercultural Food celebrations. Authentic outposts will also form part of the weekend such as bread sessions at Martry Mill and foraging on Girley Bog to name a few.
This festival will take place as a fitting listing on the calendar of ‘Taste the Island’ promoting the island of Ireland’s extensive catalogue of food and drink experiences to domestic and international visitors, c creating an all-island opportunity to showcase our world-class food and drink culture, by providing visitors with access to authentic food and drink experiences and high-quality ingredients during the months of September to November
Through the Hay/Kells, Hinterland, and Guth Gafa festivals, the town of Kells has shown its ability to attract great Irish and overseas writers (Germaine Greer, Jung Chang, Colm Toibin, Jeremy Paxman, Jeanette Winterson, Brian Eno, Roddy Doyle, Anne Enright, Sebastian Barry) since the inception of Hay/Kells 2013.
This is a truly unique event with the chance for those with an interest in food, farming, forgotten skills or just good taste to enjoy interviews, discussions and talks and demonstrations on Food & Culture
