In a concert career encompassing sixty years, Alfred Brendel emerged as one of the leading pianists of his time, regularly appearing at the main concert halls in Europe and worldwide. He was the first to record all of Beethoven’s piano works, and has performed numerous cycles of Beethoven’s sonatas and concertos. He also recorded Mozart’s piano concertos and took a prominent role in establishing Schubert’s sonatas and Schoenberg’s Concerto in the repertoire, as well as rekindling interest in the piano music of Liszt. Moreover, Alfred Brendel has gained a reputation as writer: his collected poems were published in 2003 by Hanser (“Spiegelbild und Schwarzer Spuk”). His latest book “A bis Z eines Pianisten” (Hanser) appeared in 2012.
