Step back in time and discover Ireland's ancient myths and history at Navan Centre and Fort.

Tucked away in the County Armagh countryside, this prehistoric wonderland is a must-visit for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of Ireland’s fascinating folklore. At the heart of the site lies Emain Macha, the first capital of Ulster, seat of its kings, important religious temple and a legendary fort steeped in Celtic lore. It is said that Macha, the goddess of war and fertility, marked out the boundaries of the stronghold with the pin of her brooch, and it would become central to the heroic sagas of ancient Irish literature known as the Ulster Cycle, with its tales of Cú Chulainn and the famous Red Branch Knights.

Visitors to modern-day Navan Fort can explore these stories through interactive exhibits. Costumed performers bring history to life, offering hands-on demonstrations of ancient traditions, such as weaving and pottery-making, while guided tours lead you through the archaeological features, from ancient burial mounds and ritual sites to reconstructed Iron Age dwellings. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a lover of mythology, or simply curious about the mysteries of the past, Navan Centre and Fort promises to leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
