Uncover over 100 years of history aboard a legendary World War I warship in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.
Visiting HMS Caroline is an experience you’ll never forget. Not only did this ship see action in the intense Battle of Jutland in World War I, but it then became the Belfast Naval Base HQ during the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II, before switching to a Cold-War era minesweeping school! It was finally decommissioned in 2011, then repaired and restored into the maritime marvel you see today. It’s open Friday to Sunday only – perfect for a weekend wander into history.

Bringing the past to life
First up on the HMS Caroline is the atmospheric Drill Hall, where a cinema-like experience recounts The Battle of Jutland 1916, when the British dramatically halted the German advance in the North Sea. You’ll also get to see the Engine Room, the heart of the warship, where you can hear the steam-powered turbines whir into life. The rough-and-ready “Mess Decks” and the more luxurious Captain’s Quarters are also part of the tour. Then, get some hands-on experience as a crew member in the interactive zones.

Titanic history on your doorstep
Activities and attractions abound around the HMS Caroline, which is located in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, with its 185 acres of waterfront. Titanic Belfast is the show-stopping site where the story of the ill-fated “Ship of Dreams” is brought to life across numerous floors, displays and immersive exhibits.
