Internationally renowned for its contemporary art programme, The Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin focuses on art that has been marginalised or overlooked.

Located within Dublin's Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university, The Douglas Hyde Gallery was founded in 1978. For many years it was the only publicly funded gallery in the country to regularly exhibit contemporary art.

Since then it has been consistent in bringing previously unknown artists to an Irish audience, as well as providing a stage for Irish artists to exhibit alongside their international peers.

Small exhibitions of craft and ethnographic artefacts are often held in Gallery 2, which was added in 2001, providing a more intimate and meditative environment for the display of art.

For over ten years, the Douglas Hyde Gallery has been publishing a series of small books and catalogues that are known and distributed worldwide. The gallery has also been host to many musical events over the years by such artists as Josephine Foster, Cat Power, Sufjan Stephens and Jandek.
