Richard E Grant spent a lot of time in Ireland in 2016. Not only was he filming Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland, Grant explored the Wild Atlantic Way and even made a video chronicling his time there. He soaked up traditional Irish music, marveled at the Slieve League sea cliffs, went fishing at a secluded river and toured a centuries-old lighthouse.
How do you relax following four sold-out concerts across Ireland? If you’re Grammy-winning artist Macklemore, you head to the Wild Atlantic Way to take in the spectacular sights. "The Thrift Shop" rapper visited the iconic Cliffs of Moher with his young family in May, as well as embarking on a road trip through the bucolic back roads. Now THAT is awesome.
Former Friends star and petrolhead Matt LeBlanc went road tripping in Kerry earlier this year while filming an episode of "Top Gear." LeBlanc drove a brand new Rolls-Royce around the stunning Ring of Kerry and took in the dramatic coastal views at Dingle and charming Kenmare town. Oh, and he also had his first Guinness at a pub in Killarney!
Speaking of Friends, Courteney Cox also explored Kerry with adventurer Bear Grylls where things got more than a bit wild. The pair traipsed across moors, scrambled over boulders and even rappelled down a cliff or two. And while the actress known to most as Monica Geller wasn’t impressed by the foraging menu (sheep carcass, anyone?) she loved the rugged landscapes.
In complete contrast then, "Desperate Housewives" actress Felicity Huffman spent a week tweeting and being pampered at the medieval Ashford Castle in Mayo. Here, she went on evening strolls around the award-winning grounds, visited local ruins and had her first ever pint of Guinness – which she loved! Previous guests include John Lennon, Maureen O’Hara and Brad Pitt, so she was in good company.
With all these celebrities who love the Wild Atlantic Way, it’s easy to believe that it has a certain star power about it!
