Killaloe was the ancient capital of Ireland, home to King Brian Boru. Spirit of Killaloe based in Killaloe County Clare is a luxury 50 seater passenger boat with a choice of two decks, the upper deck is ideally suited for taking in the sun and enjoying the spectacular views of the forested hills surrounding east Clare in Ireland's Shannon Region, the lower deck has spacious seating with full bar facilities. Killaloe River Cruises have been in operation from Killaloe/Ballina since the year 1999. James Whelan the owner of both boats has worked in the boat hire business since 1991.
Killaloe River Cruises offer daily one hour tours of the River Shannon and Lough Derg. The tour cruises north along the River Shannon and Lough Derg. A commentary is provided on all interesting sites along the way. The boats are suitable for passengers of all ages and are purpose built to maximise the view.
From the history of the Killaloe Canal and the Shannon Scheme of 1929, the cruise takes the visitor towards where Brian Boru High King of Ireland kept watch over the river crossing at Beal Boru. Cruising into the calm waters of Lough Derg, sheltered by the Slieve Bernagh and Arra Mountains, the panoramic view is spectacular.
