One of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland, Clonmacnoise is found along the River Shannon, just 8km from the village of Shannonbridge, County Offaly. It has attracted scholars from throughout Europe and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1979.
This 24.4km route follows the ancient Pilgrim’s Road from Ballycumber to Clonmacnoise monastic site, which runs along the crest of an esker.
