Ireland's newest international sporting and entertainment arena is the Aviva Stadium in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. A modern, world-class stadium, the Aviva plays host to Ireland's rugby and football teams, big Leinster rugby games and large gigs.
All glass panels and white stanchions, all seats in the stadium carry excellent views, and there are sure to be many more memories made on the hallowed pitch, which has been rotated 90 degrees to fit the new stadium's 50,000 capacity.
With numerous large events taking place, there will obviously be a lot of supporters and gig goers who will be looking for places to stay in the area, and luckily, Dublin 4 is one of Dublin's best served districts in terms of hotels and quality B&Bs.
You've certainly come to the best place to get information, and here are some of the best hotels in the area. Just be sure to book early!
If you get lucky, you may be able to see the Aviva Stadium from the window of your room in the D4 hotels complex. It's within a kick of a ball one could say! With three options to choose from, the Ballsbridge Inn, Ballsbridge Towers and D4 Berkley, there are plenty of beds in this complex, but it's usually booked solid for big weekends. Another gathering ground for supporters pre and post game, it's great for a bite to eat too. If you book early, there are some amazing deals to be had and you'll be right on the doorstep of the city if you want to head in after your event.
The flagship Herbert Park in Ballsbridge is a more salubrious option, situated in a lush green setting in Dublin 4. Again, only a few minutes walk to the stadium, the Herbert is a 4-star accommodation which, though a little quiet, is in a great location for match weekends and events. There are numerous good pubs across the road, so we'd probably advise staying at the Herbert and eating and drinking elsewhere.
This hotel's website states that you are "close enough to catch a wayward kick from the Aviva," and this is certainly the case! Located at the other side of the stadium from the D4 Hotel complex, on Herbert Road, the Sandymount is a family-owned historic hotel. It is close to the DART (transport to city centre) and has a delightful bar/terrace for dining. The village of Sandymount is gorgeous and well worth exploring. Plus, you're close to the sea if you want a run or swim.
Morehampton Townhouse Bed & Breakfast
A 3-star quality guesthouse situated on Morehampton Road, near Ballsbridge, the Morehampton Townhouse is a good option if you're travelling from down the country or overseas and want something a little less costly than a hotel. Free parking is available and it's all you'd expect from a guesthouse in this part of town – comfortable, spotless and comes with a hearty breakfast.
A chic and modern 5-star boutique hotel, the Dylan, on Eastmoreland Place just off Baggot Street, is perhaps for those who want to get a bit of a break as well as attend an event. With plush, personalised rooms, which include a number of luxurious touches and mod cons, the Dylan offers a fabulous atmosphere. It is also a great dining option, even if you don't choose to stay here. The bar is a favourite post-game watering hole, albeit perhaps more for those who watch the game in corporate boxes. The Dylan is also perfect for a group of girls heading to a concert. For the recent Michael Buble gig, we're sure this place was buzzing!
Baggot Court
Minutes walk from any of the popular pubs on the main route from the city to the Aviva, Baggot Court in Dublin 2 is great if you want to roll in after a night celebrating! Free WiFi throughout, cosy rooms and professional staff, again, it's a good option for those not wanting to splash out on a hotel.
