Luxury and leafiness in a corner of Cork city

21st February 2012

Tucked away within two acres of mature gardens, yet mere minutes from Cork city centre, Hayfield Manor brings you the best of both worlds. Guests here are within a short distance of the popular tourist towns of Kinsale, Blarney and Cobh, and attractions like Fota Wildlife Park, while still being close to the city and all the restaurants, pubs, nightlife and shopping it has to offer. A bright, old-style hotel near Cork’s university campus, Hayfield is exquisitely finished with antique furnishings and creeping ivy on its exterior, while beautiful gardens illuminate the entire estate.

Since opening in 1996, the hotel has been recognised on numerous occasions for its high quality, professional service and brilliant dining. Guests mix with Cork locals and tourists in the public areas, and the hotel's two renowned restaurants, Perrotts and Orchids, are considered among the best in Cork.

Perrotts is in a conservatory area at the front of the hotel and is the more contemporary and informal of the two restaurants. First opened in 2005, Perrotts has a distinctly bright, airy atmosphere, and is thronged with after-work executives and foodies on close summer nights, when the doors are thrown open and dining outside is encouraged. The menu includes dishes like rump of Kildare lamb with chive mashed potato, roasted carrots and mushrooms, apple and mint relish and white wine jus. All mains are between €19 and €30.

The more refined Orchids is constantly touted as Cork’s best restaurant. A more decedant choice, and perfect for a special occasion, Orchids is a real gem in Cork’s foodie crown. The restaurant's patented tasting menu allows you to sample all of the dishes for which Hayfield is famous.

If you wish to go into the city, there’s a door-to-door taxi service, and with plenty of things to do in Cork, you’ll never be bored! A return to Hayfield’s individually designed rooms at the end of the day may provide a welcome rest after a hectic bout of shopping in Mahon Point, or after having a few sups in one of its many watering holes.

For those wishing to simply relax and not venture into the city, Hayfield also has a luxury on-site spa, The Beautique, which offers plenty of relaxing and detoxifying beauty treatments.

Whether you’re a guest or a local looking for some amazing food and relaxation, Hayfield is one of Cork’s best hotels and offers two of Cork’s best restaurants.
