Belfast is the jewel of the north, and it’s inhabitants are a friendly, artsy, fun-loving crowd. A perfect destination for a weekend away, Belfast has a seemingly innumerable selection of restaurants, good shops, bars and brilliant clubs.
Belfast also has quite a few great hotels, on the upper end of the scale, but if you simply want a place to rest your head and shower, while you explore all that the city has to offer? There’s not much point going to a 5 star hotel in that case, so we’ve decided to explore the budget accommodation options in Belfast, and provide you with a small list of some of the better options
Designed by two urban travellers for like-minded backpackers, Vagabonds is in the Queen’s Quarter, just minutes walk from the city centre. The most recent addition to the city in terms of hostels, its manifesto is simply to provide a clean, relaxed and affordable environment for those paying a brief visit to the city. Décor is youthful and cool, and you’ll find an outside BBQ area, free WiFi, and those absolute necessities for a good hostel, a pool table and fussball table. Rates start at around £13 pp, and rooms are clean and spacious. There’s also a cool beer garden outside for those warmer nights.
Belfast City Backpacker Hostel
The tagline for City Backpacker is “where hostelling is heavenly”, and if craic is what you’re looking for, then this place is perfect. Right in the heart of the Golden Mile, it’s a fresh and unpretentious option, and really close to all the attractions Belfast has to offer. It’s very, very clean, and though a little bit out from the city, you’ll have no problem stumbling home at night. Rates are great value, from £14-20.
Roger and Olive Nicholson offer a friendly and very professional B&B experience in the relaxed surroundings of their restored Victorian home just two miles from Belfast city centre. The phrase “home away from home” is overused a little, but it’s very apt for Ravenhill, and you’ll be welcomed with tea, biscuits, and a brief overview of the city. The owners will tend to all of your needs during your stay, and the five guest bedrooms are unique and delightfully decorated. Free WiFi too, which is always welcome.
A unique Belfast B&B with more than a touch of luxury, this is the equivalent of a boutique hotel for the budget traveller. Step outside and you’re right into Ormeau Park, Belfast’s oldest park, rooms are all en-suite with shower and bath, and you’ll find an LCD hung on your wall too. The front desk can arrange tailored tours of the city for you, should you want a more structured visit, and they really take their breakfast seriously too. A true Ulster fry which will have you full until lunchtime!
Set on the picture perfect tree-lined Egaltine Avenue, Brookhill Apartments will certainly have you close to one of Belfast’s up and coming metropolitan areas. The 1 and 2 bed apartments are luxury 4 star affairs with modern furnishing, large living areas and a fully equipped kitchen. There’s a HD ready flat screen waiting for you, plus free WiFi too.
A three star, two bedroom tourist board approved luxury apartment set in a quiet cul de sac off the Golden Mile, and the ideal base for an exploration weekend, perfect for those who want to dance the night away in one of the city centre’s many clubs. If it’s location married with luxury that you’re after, this is the spot. Rooms from €60 per night.
