Meet the makers of the wonderful fresh Irish food and drinks from the Skellig Coast region.
The Skellig Six18 Distiller will demonstrate how Gin is made. You can also attend the November Gin Schools.
To celebrate Taste The Island, you are warmly welcomed to the newly-opened Skellig Six18 Distillery in Cahersiveen, County Kerry.
Skellig Six18 Distillery will be hosting themed Food Fairs on the last Sundays in October and November 2019. They’ll also be running Gin School classes throughout November.
On Food Fair afternoons, they will be offering food tastings, demonstrations and the inside track on how they choose the best food-pairings for the Skellig Six18 Gin aperitif.
Meet food producers from the Skellig Coast and expect to taste home-baking, local fresh seafood, oysters, cheese, and chocolate. Get involved in the demonstrations of making traditional butter, brown bread, and Christmas Cake. A local forager will share their recipes with you, too.
At each Food Fair, the Distiller will demonstrate how the 500 litre Gin Still operates. Then, using beautiful small copper alembic stills, he’ll also show you how to create small-batch Gin to a unique recipe.
Separately, if you’d like to create your own-recipe bottle of Gin, you can book to attend one of the Gin School Classes. These take place on Saturday afternoons throughout November for the Taste The Island Event. This is a hands-on experience, where you’ll get to design your recipe, distill, bottle and label your exclusive Gin to take home with you. (€100 pp, max 10 per class)
Skellig Six18 Distillery are located on the Ring of Kerry, Wild Atlantic Way and are in the Gold-Tier Dark Sky Reserve. Stay around for a few days, there’s plenty to discover on the Skellig Coast!
