Cork Midsummer Festival is a ten-day multi-disciplinary arts festival that takes place each summer and uses Cork City as its backdrop and inspiration. Each summer, a variety of venues around the city, from large to small, present music, theatre, dance, installations, and talks from both emerging and established artists.
Amongst the highlights of the 2018 edition of the Cork Midsummer Festival will be the premiere of a brand new stage adaptation of Louise O’Neill’s 2015 novel, Asking For It at the Everyman Theatre. Asking For It grappled successfully with the difficult theme of sexual assault, and quickly became a influential and highly acclaimed work in the two years since its release.
Last year's festival featured a wealth of very special programme that included a site-specific installation in the National Sculpture Factory by artist Robert Curgenven, an appearance by the Cork Fleischmann Symphony Orchestra in the Glen River Park, and an installation of a seven-metre moon with a soundtrack by composer Dan Jones in Nexus Hall in Cork Institute of Technology.
The 2018 promises to be just as varied and fascinating, so watch out for a similarly stellar line-up this summer.
