Temple House is a beautiful Georgian mansion set in an estate of 1,000 acres, overlooking a 13th Century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar.
Temple House is one of the finest estates in the West of Ireland. The present manor was redesigned in 1864 and exudes the authentic and unpretentious country house atmosphere. This is not a hotel or just a bed and breakfast, but an historic home offering unique and luxury country house accommodation. Temple House still retains its authentic decoration and furniture from that period and delicate Chinese porcelain is intermingled with solid County Sligo squires and their ladies. The main reception rooms are large, bright and comfortable, while the bedrooms – several have canopied beds – are particularly pleasant, with superb views. One is so large that it has long been known as the half-acre.
Despite its vast size this is a comfortable, welcoming family home with many original contents. The owners are Roderick and Helena Perceval, whose family has lived here since 1665. Temple House is surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty. Guests will find on site boating, pike fishing, birdwatching, terraced gardens and miles of woodland walks. Within easy reach are beautiful beaches, eagles flying, archaeological sites, horse riding, trout fishing and four championship golf courses. Traditional Irish music and dancing sessions are often held nearby.
Temple House is an ideal stopping point when travelling between Connemara, Slieve League in Donegal and the Giant’s Causeway, and is a really terrific base for exploring Sligo along the Wild Atlantic Way.
