First performed as part of the 2017 edition of the Dublin Theatre Festival, Class graduates to the Abbey’s Peacock Stage this winter following rave reviews last year. Written by Iseult Golden and David Horan, Class is a dark comedy about learning difficulties both inside and outside of the classroom.

The play deals with Brian and Donna, a recently separated couple, whose nine-year-old son, Jayden, is struggling to keep up with his lessons in school. Jayden’s teacher, Mr. McCafferty, suggests that he should visit a psychologist. At a disastrous parent teacher meeting, the situation escalates as all three parties come into conflict.

Class takes a sideways look at the institutions of childhood and adulthood, as well as asking questions of social class, and what people expect of one another.
