Join Ulster Orchestra for a concert to speak to the most Romantic of souls. Liszt's Second Piano Concerto has been described as a 'concerto for poets' and is a ground-breaking work by the legendary icon of the piano. It's a virtuosic partnership between piano and orchestra that is by turns lyrical and introspective, then triumphant and dramatic. Our poet for the performance is Kirill Gerstein, who "...has the touch and fluidity of a Liszt virtuoso and at the same time the intuition of a chamber musician." (Der Tagesspiel)
Brahms' Second Symphony is full of warmth and optimism, overflowing with joyful melodies. The composer's friend, Theodore Billroth, described it as "all rippling streams, blue sky, sunshine, and cool green shadows" and it brings this performance to a lushly pastoral conclusion.
