Here All Night is a musical extravaganza based on the words – and music – of Samuel Beckett.
Here All Night is a musical extravaganza based on the words – and music – of Samuel Beckett. Using texts and melodies taken from Beckett’s early novels Watt, First Love, Malone Dies, The Unnamable, and Words & Music, British composer Paul Clark has created a score that defies easy categorisation.
Clark created Here All Night with Judy Hegarty and Conor Lovett of the theatre company Gare St Lazare, who are known as one of the world’s premiere interpreters of Beckett’s work.
Clark also worked with noted trad musician Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, who will play the hardanger d’amore – an unusual 10-string fiddle – as well as an all-female choir, and visual artist Brian O’Doherty.
Having initially debuted at the Brighton Festival in 2013, Here All Night has since been performed in the New York, Boston, and London. This visit to the Abbey Theatre’s stage, as part of an Irish tour, is a sort of homecoming for the Beckett-themed work, and is one you won’t want to miss.
