The elegant manor house of Becketts Hotel was the birthplace of Samuel Beckett's mother and is located in Leixlip, County Kildare. A short drive from Dublin city, it offers 10 contemporary designed rooms in an idyllic setting.
Samuel Beckett, one of Ireland's most enigmatic and world-famous writers, is part of the rich and varied heritage of Cooldrinagh House and Demesne, which is now known as Becketts. Beckett's mother - May - was born here on March 1st, 1871.
Cooldrinagh House in Leixlip, County Kildare, was described by James Knowlson (Samuel Beckett's biographer) as ...a very grand house, almost a mansion, dating from 1760, with imposing pillars at the front door, a flight of stone steps and a cast iron balustrade... . Today it has been fully restored in what can only be described as a highly unusual, contemporary and atmospheric way.
Once said to be 'West Dublin's Best Kept Secret', the Becketts restaurant is still West Dublin's best but no longer a secret!
