The Ballyrafter Country House Hotel, established in 1966, is situated just one kilometre from the heritage town of Lismore, County Waterford, overlooking the famous Blackwater River at Lismore Castle.
Ballyrafter House Hotel overlooks Lismore Castle, the Blackwater River and the Irish Heritage Town of Lismore. Their wooded demesne snuggles into the foothills of the Knockmealdown Mountains.
The Duke of Devonshire was the richest man in England when he built Ballyrafter House in the early 1800's. This fine country residence was intended for his estate manager and is a testament to the gracious life style of its first owners.
The Public Rooms feature fourteen foot ceilings, ornate moulding, luxuriant fireplaces, polished mahogany and plush carpets. Large windows overlook the acres of garden.
Though elegant, Ballyrafter offers, in the words of one writer, "unpretentious comforts". The place does not feel stuffy, but warm and welcoming. The sun room/conservatory and lounge bar contribute to this feeling of peaceful relaxation. So does the excellent Restaurant featuring local foods. Breakfast is included with all bookings.
Yours hosts, Joe and Noreen Willoughby, are happy to share their local knowledge, love of cooking and fishing, and their sunny home.
All well-appointed guest rooms are ensuite and furnished with Georgian style furnishing, telephones, tea and coffee machines and hairdryers.
The hotel features a full bar, restaurant, dining room seating up to 30 people, banqueting suite catering for up to 80 people, resident's lounge, reading room, conservatory and gardens.
Fishing is owner Joe Willoughby's passion! The Blackwater River is a big, fast-flowing river particularly suited to fly fishing.
A tree lined avenue welcomes you to this period house and tranquil setting.
In the words of Georgina Campbell, Chairman, Irish Food Writers Guild: "A relaxing atmosphere, log fires and good home cooking".
