Created as a joyous celebration of choral music-making.

The City of Derry International Choir Festival is back this October, from 23-27, with a stellar line-up of guest artists and 100 participating choirs for a jam-packed 5-day festival.

Opening the seventh edition of the festival is the Ulster Orchestra with Festival Chorus, who join forces for a performance of popular classical work The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins in Derry’s iconic Guildhall on Wednesday 23 October.

Young male vocal consort, The Gesualdo Six, will present a diverse programme of choral music in the beautiful setting of Christ Church on Thursday 24 October, followed by a late-night performance of Bruckner’s Mass in E Minor by Codetta, Tequila Opera Chorus (Mexico) and Ulster Orchestra in St Eugene’s Cathedral.

Kicking off the weekend with some Jazz, Pop and Funk, SLIXS, one of the best vocal ensembles on the world a cappella stage today, will return to the festival on Friday 25 October in St. Columb’s Hall. The highlight of the festival will be the International Competition, on Saturday 26 October in St. Columb’s Hall, where eight choirs representing Brazil, Italy, Norway, Portugal, North Macedonia, England, Ireland and Wales, compete for the prestigious “Oak Tree of Derry” trophy and a cash prize of £2,000, announced at the final Closing Gala Concert on Sunday 27 October.

And, as an extra curtain-raising pre-festival event, the award-winning Belfast-based production company Dumbworld will team up with the Ulster Orchestra and 200 young voices from Derry, Belfast and Donegal for a performance of Brian Irvine’s Anticlockwise on Saturday 19 October in the Millennium Forum.
