Join in on an adventure through the ancient lands along the River Boyne, visiting Slane Food Circle producers on their working farms to get a unique glimpse into how they rear, grow or make their own produce guided by the producers themselves.

First on the tour you will visit Boyne Valley Farmhouse Cheese, Mullagha farm, owned & run by Michael Finegan. Michael along with his wife Jenny produce goats’ cheese - Boyne Valley Blue and Boyne Valley Bán - both multi award winning cheeses.

Michael and Jenny started milking goats in 2008 and have now grown to milking nearly 300 goats on the historic Mullagha Farm, which is dated from 1510. During your visit to Mullagha Michael will guide you around his farm sharing its history. He will introduce to his goats, explain his cheesemaking process and allow you to get a real insight into his life as an artisan cheese producer.

Next you will visit The Cider Mill owned and operated by Mark Jenkinson. Here you will get an up close and personal visit to Mark’s family smallholding and cider mill getting a special glimpse into the world of traditional farmhouse cider making. The Cider Mill produces many different ciders and apple juices including the multi award winning Cockagee Irish Keeved Cider. Mark will guide on a tour of his cider mill and share with you this history of cider and the processes involved in producing it.

From The Cider Mill you will travel to Crewbawn House home to Newgrange Gold, where you will meet with producer Jack Rogers. Crewbawn House is situated in the heart of the Boyne Valley allowing for the most breath-taking view looking out towards the passage tombs of Newgrange and Knowth. On this tour Jack will demonstrate how oilseeds are cold pressed to create the various oils produced by Newgrane Gold including rapeseed oil and the ancient oilseed called Camelina Sativa.

As well as learning about the production of seed oils visitors will also be guided by Jack around the medieval fortification ground works at Crewbane and learn about Knowth and the medieval Kingdom of Brega.

Following on from Newgrange Gold you will head for your last destination on the tour; Rock Farm Slane, home to Carina & Alex Conyngham. Rock Farm Slane is an award-winning ecotourism destination and organic farm on the Slane Castle Estate. Carina and Alex run a 90-acre organic farm which specialises in rearing a variety of organic Dexter cattle, Tamworth pigs, chickens for eggs, turkeys for Christmas as well as organic fruit and vegetables in their Market Garden.

During your guided tour of Rock Farm by Carina you will learn all about organic farming as well as the very special history attached to Rock Farm and The Battle of the Boyne. At the end of your tour with Carina you will get the opportunity to sample all the delicious produce you have been learning about all day with a sharing platter.
