South Dublin's acclaimed new wave group The Blades are back again this December at The Academy for what is quickly becoming a highly-anticipated yearly tradition.
Formed in the late 1970s, the band released two seven-inch singles in their time: Hot For You and Ghost of a Chance, the latter of which was performed on The Late Late Show in 1981. Hits like Downmarket, Ghost of a Chance and Revelations of Heartbreak gave voice to a burgeoning scene defined by both its edge and its masterful songcraft.
A band of the utmost integrity, The Blades often shared the stage with rising Irish stars like U2, and it was often remarked that of the gigging bands at the time, it was they who had all the right elements for a star-studded career. Although international renown did not end up on the cards for the group, their fan base has remained loyal, and, more than three decades later, their sold-out show last year is a true testament to their prowess as a band.
This special all-ages event will mark the third year in a row the legendary group will put on a seasonal celebration of Dublin's diverse and storied musical history, so don't miss out.
