Fáilte go Fleadh Laighean. Witness the best of Irish Traditional music as competitors compete to represent the province of Leinster. A week crammed with the best of music that will culminate in an event packed weekend 10th - 12th July 2020.
The Fleadh Laighean / Leinster Fleadh will be hosted by County Dublin in 2020 and the town of Swords will be the venue. This week long competition will highlight the greatest talent of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, the national non-profit cultural movement that organises and promotes traditional Irish music at home and abroad.
Historic Swords Castle will be the main venue and music will ring all around the town for the duration of the festival that runs from 5th to 12th July.
The Leinster Fleadh is a traditional Irish music festival that will involve competitions in a wide range of areas from fiddle, banjo, uilleann pipes to singing, lilting and dancing competitions. The main centre of events will be Swords Castle, which has undergone a fantastic refurbishment over the last few years through the efforts of Fingal County Council. The fully enclosed castle dates from the Norman era and will act as the perfect amphitheatre for events alongside the refurbished castle chapel. Other venues being used are local schools, community centres and GAA clubs.
Apart from the competition side of the week there will be music sessions of every type throughout the town and feature concerts at Swords Castle. Street closures will add to the atmosphere during the ultimate weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th July.
Mayor of Fingal, Councillor Eoghan O’Brien recently expressed his support for the Fleadh at the launch concert. The mayor said “The coming of Fleadh Laighean to Swords is a fantastic event that will help further raise the profile of Irish music and also the profile of Swords and the wider Fingal region. I am really encouraged by the enthusiasm and proficiency of the young musicians performing today. I would hope that the coming of Leinster Fleadh to Swords will pave the path for the possibility of the national Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann coming to Swords in a few years”.
The Leinster Fleadh is organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and the Leinster Fleadh looks forward to welcoming all to Swords in July 2020 to partake in the ceol agus craic that will be in abundance.
