A Journey to experience a Wild Taste on the Edge - Malin Head, an adventure awaits you as you go on a slow adventure through the mythical landscape and seascape of Inishowen, Donegal, from Moville to Malin Head. A wild culinary tour traveling from Moville through stunning natural scenery where you will go on a food journey to arrive in Wild Strands Caife, Malin Head. You will be provided with local insight by your local guide and heritage expert, William Mc Elhinney aka Seaweed Man along with the multi-award-winning Wild Strands team will providing you with a unique food experience and an opportunity to re-connect with nature, yourself and some of the forgotten Tastes of Ireland celebrating our food heritage in Irelands Iconic northern location, Malin Head.
The adventure begins on the pier in Donegal's Maritime Heritage town of Moville, once the famed scene for departure of mass emigration. Here on the banks of one of The Foyle, you will be greeted and receive a famed warm Donegal Cead Milé Fáilte. Enjoy a seaweed smoothie along with homemade scones cooked on a griddle with seaweed served from Wild Strands Mobile Wood Fired Oven . This is a hands-on experience so here's your chance to get baking. You will hear stories about the heritage of seaweed used in this area, the role of food and how the bounties of the Foyle River have shaped its illustrious history. It’s the season to harvest the culinary delicacy of the world famous native Wild Oyster Foyle Beds and later on have a very rare opportunity to shuck / taste one of the culinary delicacies of Ireland. A Chance to understand the story of the traditional boats of the areas.g Curragh, Foyle Punt that William has helped to build and restore. Travel on through this beautiful coastal natural area that has inspired world alumni like Brian Friel, John Hume, Liam McCormick, Joyce Carey, Brigid O'Toole and learn how the layers of invasion to this area from the Vikings, Normans, British, etc affected our food culture. On to the spectacular setting of Kinnagoe Bay, the location of the sinking of la Trinidad Valencera from the Spanish Armada, relax and soak in its wild beauty,. Enjoy a guided short seaweed safari. Journey on through this ancient landscape to the monastic site of Cloncha to discuss the food and diet of early Christianity. Opportunity to sample a hedgerow punch with mead if desired.
Arrive in HQ Wild Strands Caife for lunch specializing in local Inishowen produce. This is an interactive hands-on event that involves active participation to engage with the story and preparation of food. Lunch will be cooked in Ireland's most northerly Caife cooking with local and organic produce in a Wood Fired Oven.
A short trip to Ireland’s most northerly point, Banba's Crown and engage in an outdoor session in this area of outstanding natural beauty with your trained Tai Chi Qigong instructor, William. Return bus to end a memorable day to Moville.
