Canalways Ireland Barge Holidays, located in Rathangan, County Kildare, provide cruising holidays in remote and tranquil parts of Ireland on the Grand Canal and the recently restored Barrow River Navigation.
Canalways Ireland is based in Rathangan, which lies on the banks of the Barrow Line branch of the Grand Canal in County Kildare. They provide the opportunity to hire a range of traditional steel canal boats sleeping between two-eight people. All boats are fitted out to a very high standard and designed for canal and river cruising. They are powered by economical diesel engines and have a cosy interior. Modern comforts include electric flush toilet, shower, central heating, duvets & linen, stereo radio-cassette. There are full self catering facilities on board with a four burner hob, grill, oven and fridge. A portable BBQ is also supplied.
Once aboard passengers can experience the thrill of steering their own barge, operating 200 year old locks, navigating under beautiful stone bridges, and stopping off in towns for supplies and a friendly chat with the locals. With no fixed schedule passengers have the freedom to come and go as they please. Many activities are available such as fishing, golf and cycling or take a stroll through the villages and towns to experience the history, culture and traditional pubs that are on offer.
No licence is required to cruise on the waterways of Ireland. Previous boating experience such as sailing or canoeing is helpful but not necessary. If passengers are a complete novice then canal cruising is ideal. Canalways Ireland provide full instructions to all their hirers on how to operate the boat and all its equipment.
Canalways Ireland can arrange a minibus to collect passengers from Dublin or they can easily make their own way from most cities by train or bus to Kildare Station where a taxi can then bring them to Rathangan.
