4 days of music, drama poetry and walks in one of the most beautiful villages in the Glens of Antrim

Cushendun’s Big Arts Weekend is a four day festival of music, drama, poetry, exhibitions workshops and family fun in one of the most beautiful villages in the Glens of Antrim. Now in its sixth year the festival celebrates the rich culture and spectacular landscape of Cushendun and the Glens of Antrim.

The weekend kicks off on Friday 4th May with an evening of traditional music celebrating the songs of Brian Conners with Sean Quinn and Glenn Simpson. Saturday’s highlights include ‘Painters Poets and Playwrights’ a guided walk around Cushendun, a Painting Masterclass with Hector McDonnell and ‘In Conversation with Martin Lynch and Marie Jones’.

Sunday is Family Fun Day at National Trust owned Glenmona House with a Sandcastle competition (weather permitting), kids craft workshop, face- painting and a puppet show. There is also talks and workshops for the grownups.

On Monday you can join the ‘An tSiuloid’ (the long walk) before heading back to Glenmona House to enjoy wonderful local produce and craft at the Naturally North Coast Artisan Market. Glenmona House is open all weekend and serving delicious home made cakes and coffee. The annual ‘Painting for Pleasure’ exhibition will be open for the duration. The weekend has something for everyone and many of the events are free so be sure to save the date 4 -7 May.

Cushendun is a very picturesque village and worth a visit at any time. Designed by Clough Williams-Ellis who also designed world famous Portmeirion, Cushendun has been home to many artists and writers including Louis MacNeice and John Masefield. The beautiful beach and lovely Glendun are at their best in spring and while you’re here you might want to pop in to the spectacular caves featured in the Game of Thrones.

Naturally North Coast & Glens Market will be at Glenmona House on Monday 7th May bringing a range of handcrafted goods and local produce including lots of delicious treats.
