The best-selling and award-winning Atlas of the Irish Revolution from Cork University Press is the anchor theme of a new exhibition at St. Peter’s Cork on North Main Street in the heart of Cork City.
The exhibition brings to life the Atlas of the Irish Revolution book and some of the pivotal moments in Irish history as they played out across the country and touches on history, geography, art history, sociology and archaeology in addition to intertwining the Cork perspective into the narrative of the events that occurred. It also highlights the varying views and the different sides to the conflict from 1913 to 1923 through use of images and extended, informative panels.
A key feature of the exhibition is a dedicated reading area where visitors can explore the 5kg and close to 1,000-page book that features 100-plus contributors and over 300 maps that add a whole new way of looking at the events of a century ago.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the RTÉ Cork produced ‘The Irish Revolution’ documentary directed by Ruán Magan and throughout the year, St. Peter’s Cork and UCC will host several thought-provoking talks on various themes from the book.
The exhibition will continue in St. Peter's Cork until the end of the year.
Admission is free.
