Lough Tay is fed by the Cloghoge River which then drains into Lough Dan west of Roundwood, County Wicklow.
Lough Dan can be accessed via a cul-de-sac road. This beautiful walk overlooks the lake and the Cloghoge River, which links Lough Tay and Lough Dan. The walk descends to the river valley below.
Another and much more satisfying way to get to Lough Dan is via a forest trail on the Sally Gap - Roundwood Road, where the walk takes you through the valley between the two lakes. The views from the high road are magnificent while the low road runs along the Cloghoge River. A circuit can be completed here between the two roads if the walker is prepared to get their feet wet when Lough Dan is reached, as the river here can easily be forded.
Although Lough Tay can be seen from the road and the high trail there is no access to the lakeshore as the land is private.
Fishing rights to Lough Dan and the neighbouring Lough Tay are held exclusively by the Guinness Estate and other local landowners. There are no facilities for visiting anglers on these loughs.
