With an abundance of artisan producers, incredible natural ingredients, vibrant farmers' markets and award-winning restaurants, it’s no wonder County Galway is the first region in Ireland awarded the status of European Region of Gastronomy for 2018.

From the buzzing food scene of Galway city to the charming heritage and traditions that span the county and its islands, there’s a deep-rooted connection between the people and their food here in the heart of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

With some of the most dramatic natural scenery anywhere in Ireland, the county of Galway is home to over 12,000 farms, 689km of coastline, an astonishing 52 islands and some 350 restaurants. From the seasonal symphonies of Michelin-starred Aniar restaurant, to the fresh bounty of seafood served up at The Chalet Seafood Restaurant, the respect and innate understanding of the land and sea sings on the palette (and the plate!).

There’s a huge amount of events and festivals in store throughout the year, celebrating the food, heritage and nature of the region by bridging the gap between producers and purchasers.

So get ready for a journey from farm to fork, and ocean to plate, as we celebrate the rich cuisine that County Galway has to offer.
