Of course we’ll greet you with a big céad míle fáilte (one hundred thousands welcomes in Gaelic) when you arrive in Ireland. After that, we’ll ask you for your passport. There are different requirements for different nationalities when visiting Ireland, so here’s what you need to know when travelling to Ireland from India.
You will need a valid passport to enter the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. ALWAYS check what form of ID is required with your individual airline, ferry company or travel agent before travelling.
Indian national visitors to Republic of Ireland require an Irish visa. Indian national visitors to Northern Ireland require a UK visa. For further information and guidelines, please visit the Embassy of Ireland website
The British Irish Visa Scheme
The new British Irish Visa Scheme (BIVS) allows a short stay applicant from India to travel to and around both the UK and Ireland with only one visa. Whether this visa is a UK visa or an Irish visa is dependent on the country you visit first. For more information visit the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) website (www.inis.gov.ie)
Republic of Ireland Visa Procedures
Going to Ireland has never been easier. An online visa application facility for Ireland is available to Indian visitors. You can apply online in the visa section of the INIS website. Applicants must then submit their passports and documentation to the VFS Visa Application Centres in 13 cities across India. All visit visa applications take up to 10 weeks of processing time. To be fair to all applicants, applications will only be considered in date order of receipt in the Visa Office. The office apologises for any inconvenience this delay may cause. For further information and guidelines, please visit:
Visas For Northern Ireland
Indian visitors to Northern Ireland require a UK visa. Applicants must submit their passports and documentation to any VFS office in India to apply for their UK visa. For further information and guidelines, please visit:
Irish Short-stay Visa Waiver Programme
The Short-Stay Visa Waiver Scheme allows Indian visitors who have valid UK visit visas to also visit the Republic of Ireland, without the need for an Irish visa.
