St Patrick on Slemish Mountain

Slemish Mountain

Discover the dramatic tale of St Patrick's time as a young slave on Slemish Mountain, masterfully told on the foothills of the very place St Patrick once stood

On St Patrick’s Day 2017, the local community of Broughshane, County Antrim, sought to bring the story of St Patrick’s arrival in Ireland to the masses – and now you can see the performance as filmed on the slopes of Slemish Mountain.

St Patrick on the Throne of Slemish tells the story of the saint’s turbulent introduction to our island. At the age of 16, Patrick was captured in Wales and brought to County Antrim by a band of pirates from Ireland – a dramatic start in life for the man who would go on to become Ireland’s patron saint.

After his arrival on Slemish Mountain, Patrick worked under local chieftain Milchu as a shepherd for six years. It was during this time that he found his faith – and soon after, he brought it to the shores of this island. Watch the video above for the whole story...
