Dundalk is the centre for many art and theatre festivals and the starting point for pony trekking, hill walking and many other leisure pursuits, and a vibrant nightlife. If you like live bands, the now world famous Spirit Store is only 5 minutes away.
In this beautiful and scenic area looking onto the Cooley Mountains and the sea, Dundalk is steeped in history and culture. Dundalk and the surrounding area has a rich cultural scene with its theatre, art gallery, museum and legendary links with the Celtic hero, Cuchulainn.
This is an ideal location for exploring nearby attractions including Mellifont Abbey (first Cistercian Abbey to be built in Ireland) and the Monasterboice High Crosses and Round Tower only 15 minutes drive away. Or take a spin 20 mins North and enjoy spectacular views over Carlingford Lough, the Mourne Mountains and Medieval Carlingford. On route you can travel to nearby Cooley and enjoy the Cooley Peninsula sights. There are plenty of activities in the area including trail walking, cycling, horse riding, hill walking, sailing, fishing or windsurfing and it’s all within easy reach.
Other nearby attractions include Newgrange (Irish: Sí an Bhrú), Brú na Bóinne -a prehistoric monument in County Meath, Ireland, about one kilometre north of the River Boyne. It was built about 3200 BC, during the Neolithic period, which makes it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids.
There are also several Parkland and Links Golf Courses nearby including Dundalk Golf Club & Greenore Golf Club. Both Championship Courses, Dundalk Golf Club is unquestionably one of Ireland's finest parkland layouts in the country.
