Sister Nancy is a legendary dancehall DJ, MC, and singer from Kingston Jamaica.

Sister Nancy is a celebrated dancehall DJ, MC, and singer from Kingston Jamaica. She makes a rare visit to Dublin this June.

One of Nancy’s 14 siblings, Dickie, was the celebrated MC known as Brigadier Jerry who began performing on Prince Norman’s sound system in Kingston, where the teenage Nancy subsequently made tentative steps into the world of MCing.

By 1980 she had dropped her debut single Papa Dean, and her seminal debut record One Two followed in 1982. Her combination of socially conscious lyrics, a fiery attitude and the instantly memorable “sing jay” vocal style – found most notably on the chorus of her signature hit Bam Bam – marked her out as a star, and Sister Nancy became the first female Jamaican DJ to tour internationally.

A genuine dancehall legend, excellent local promoters Choice Cuts have brought Sister Nancy to The Sugar Club for what will be a night of pure fyah.
