Guth Gafa is the largest independent documentary festival in Ireland.
Guth Gafa is the largest independent documentary festival in Ireland. In the stunning setting of 18th century Headfort House and its grounds, the festival hosts award-winning international and Irish films, live music and great food, and is now in its 12th year.
The festival is recognised both in Ireland and internationally for bringing award-winning, critically acclaimed films and filmmakers to Kells, allowing rural audiences to enjoy a long weekend of great films, discussion and debate. This year's programme features many Irish premieres including the Finnish documentary Punk Voyage, and Irish film, I, Dolours.
The Guth Gafa creates its own festival village in the splendorous grounds of Headfort House, complete with unique pop-up screening venues like an 18th century Robert Adam designed ballroom, and The Roadhouse, Ireland’s only mobile cinema. The programme, as ever, will be diverse and thought-provoking throughout.
To go with the array of films on show, there is also an entertainment tent with live music each night, gourmet food, craft beer, and children’s entertainment for young audiences – a complete festival experience.
