Stunning grounds, a beautiful location on the edge of Carrowbeg River in County Mayo, and fascinating history – welcome to Westport House.

The Pirate Queen of Connacht Grace O’Malley was the first owner of the site upon which Westport House stands. Grace built a castle here in the 1500s, which later became the foundation for the 18th century Palladian mansion you can visit today.

Westport House and its surrounding estate were opened to the public in 1960 and with so much to see and do here, it’s easy to understand why this has become such a must-visit spot. One of the most enjoyable parts of a visit here is the guided tour, which unveils the estate’s interesting history – including that of a 3000-year-old Greek sarcophagus brought here in 1812! Afterwards, enjoy a stroll around the scenic grounds or take a pedal boat out onto the lake. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, you’ll find it at Westport Adventure within the grounds. It’s home to Ireland’s largest net park and the perfect place to let off a bit of steam while tackling a giant swing, swinging on a zipline or challenging yourself with the “Quarry Edge Leap”, a leap of faith off a three-storey platform.
