Visit the Walled City’s Guildhall
Dating back to 1887, the neo-Gothic Guildhall was designed by John Guy Ferguson and is one of the most striking buildings in Northern Ireland.
Beyond the eye-catching red sandstone of the building’s exterior are what can only be described as treasures, including intricate stained-glass windows and an organ of 3,132 pipes designed by Sir Walter Parrat. Inside, you’ll also find an interactive museum space where you can learn about the history of the building and the surrounding area. And if the Guildhall Clock looks familiar, that’s because it was modelled on London’s famous Big Ben.
The Guildhall has been a space for the people since it opened in 1890. This venue has seen musical performances, theatre, circus performers, boxing matches and more. Both inside the Guildhall and in the outside square are still used for events, such as performances from the Ulster Orchestra and the Mayor’s Supercar Saturday, so check out their website when visiting to see what’s on.
