The Narrows Social small-scale, eco-tourism project in Portaferry

The Narrows Social, formerly part of the award-winning Narrows Restaurant and guesthouse, has been redefined and reimaged by Celia Spouncer after a period of dereliction. It is now a registered, small-scale, eco-tourism project in Portaferry. We are located at the tip of the Ards peninsula on the shores of Strangford Lough. We have 3 rooms ensuite with views across The Narrows tidal river. Breakfast is home cooked using local produce. We also have a self-catering unit, The Narrows Refugio which looks out over the kitchen garden. Guests are invited to help themselves to produce from the garden.
Castle Ward can be seen from your window, and Game of Thrones fan will recognise “Winterfell’ and ‘Robbs Field’. The new Game of Thrones ‘doors’ are located in Portaferry and Strangford. Clear Skies who organise Game of Throne tours are close by.
Apart from being a cool place to stay, it is also sociable in the foodie sense. There are Supper Clubs, foraging and green tourism events throughout the year - all of them related to Slow Food and Slow Adventure. Celia Spouncer, has been a member of Slow Food for 15 years and is also a budding cheesemaker. The Narrows Social was recently awarded Silver Green Tourism.
Vegan, gluten free, raw and vegetarian food is often on the menu. We also hold health and well-being workshops and music events with local musicians. Local suppliers include Black Beef, EastCoast Fisheries, Cully’s, Marlfield Chicken, East Coast Seafoods and foraged plants from shore and islands.
Check events and opening times on Twitter, AirBnB, Facebook, WalkNI, DiscoverNorthern Ireland and FoodNI website.
