Kinsale Mead Co. is in Kinsale town. The meadery tour explains the fascinating history of bees, honey and mead. Sample some honey, see where fermentation, maturation and bottling takes place, then finish by tasting some mead in the tasting room.

Kinsale Mead Co. opened for business in 2017 right in the heart of Kinsale town. Spend an hour in the meadery for an entertaining experience learning all about mead.

Mead is known as the honeymoon drink, fermented from honey. It’s the world’s oldest alcoholic drink dating back as far as 6,000 B.C. From the bee to the bottle, Kinsale Mead Co. handcrafts their mead in small batches with carefully sourced, natural ingredients.

The meadery tour starts with an overview of mead's long and glorious global history. They talk about the bees and then walk through the production area. You’ll see their honey and sample some, and where their meads are fermented, matured and bottled.

The tour finishes in the tasting room where the bar is made from a 300 year old oak tree that fell in Fota Island. Here you will be able to taste four meads in their tasting room including some only on offer in the meadery. You will understand each mead’s flavour profiles and how best to serve and pair with different foods. You can even buy a bottle or two to take home with you!

The meadery is 600m walking from the Kinsale Tourist Office.
