Derry/Londonderry is reknowned for many things but three in particular: the genuine hospitality that comes springs effortlessly from the City's population; the craic an over abundance of historic antiquities. The hospitality shown by the people of the City to strangers and visitors alike has been and remains to be a hall mark. No one can remain a stranger in the City. The 'craic' simply means 'fun'. Derry/Londonderry has a historic and current love of and culture including: traditional music and dance; contemporary music and dance; classical music; theatre; pantomine and the many wonderful ad hoc theatrical one offs that emerge from the cultural melting pot. Having a blend of two main cultural traditions of Irish and Ulster Scots Derry/Londonderry is blessed with a rich and deep source from which cultural creativity is constantly renewed. The craic includes pub life and the easy association locals enjoy with the benefits afforded by sensible alcohol consumption and the company of like minded people. It would be unimaginable to spend time in Derry/Londonderry and not enjoy the experience.
The third major strand of Derry/Londonderry'sofferings is its amazing history and the numerous historic attractions: the Derry Walls; St Columbs Cathederal; St Augustines Church; St Columbas Church; The Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall; 1st derry Presbyterian Church; Free Derry Corner; the Fountain; the Bogside; the Tower Museum and many many more. It is a fact that by walking the Derry Walls and visiting the numerous excellent tourist attractions, history appears to come alive. Walking in Derry/Londonderry is like walking through history instead of being a spectator.
