Ashford Castle is a luxurious five-star hotel situated along the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, County Mayo. The beautiful 13th century castle, complete with 83 guest rooms, dates back to 1228 and was once the Guinness family estate.
Dating back to 1228 and once the estate of the Guinness family, the magnificent Ashford Castle is situated on the shores of the Lough Corrib and first opened as a hotel in 1939. The castle has a long tradition of hospitality and all guest rooms are designed with stunning views. Many of the 83 guest rooms retain their original features, though all are equipped with modern amenities, including telephone, interactive TV, Internet access, an ironing centre, hairdryer and safety deposit box.
While staying at Ashford Castle, guests can eat like kings and queens in a choice of two dining options, each with its own unique style and ambiance. Offering the ultimate in luxury, guests can relax and unwind in the Spa, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
There are a host of on site activities available on site on the estate some of which include golf, falconry, horse-riding, boat cruising and fishing. Ashford Castle is situated near the village of Cong which was made famous by the making of the film the Quiet Man in 1952 starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
