The Glencolmcille Archaeology School comprises field trips to the numerous pre- and early Christian sites in Southwest Donegal; also evening lectures by scholars in early Irish history, art and archaeology.

This summer school, running for over 30 years and set up by Fr James McDyer and Professor Michael Herity, examines in detail the rich antiquities of the coastal southwest Donegal region. 'In its magnificent ancient monuments Glencolmcille has something special to offer. For here within the range of three miles you can span 5000 years of time'. Fr James McDyer, St Columbas Day, 9th June 1971.

The monuments range from those from 3,000 BC and the burial grounds of the early farmers of the period through to the Celts and onwards to the Christian period 500AD. Thevalley has a unique pilgrimage dedicated to St Colm Cille (Columba) with 'An Turas' practised annually on June 9th.
Dr Brian Lacy, the renowned Columban scholar will direct the 2015 summer school with lectures from one of the founders Professor Michal Herity and David McGuinness.
