Breda Haugh is a jeweller and designer working in precious metals. Her work reflects contemporary style and periodically, our culture. Located within the city boundary, a twenty minutes walk from O’Connell Bridge.
Jewellery making and work in metals, including precious metals, is a unique and core element of our heritage, with many outstanding examples made over many centuries in history on view in our National Museum, the most well known being the Tara Brooch and Ardagh Challice. Breda Haugh's work therefore comes from an established tradition laid down over the generations, but created to reflect today’s world. Some of her most inspiring sources comes from our heritage and along with showing work in my studio I supply the National Museum retail outlet with jewellery related to the artefacts on display there.
Breda Haugh welcomes visitors for one to one tuition in the craft of jewellery design and places great emphasis on the learner's creativity.
Breda guides students through the process of developing their own ideas and style in line with their own interests and skill base, which is also built on through the process of creation.
Breda works in the studio each day and is always happy to show visitors the processes in designing and making jewellery as she likes to spread understanding and knowledge related to the discipline and will therefore, demonstrate a simple process if appropriate and speak to visitors who may have a particular interest in jewellery.Due to safety issues, it is impossible for visitors to “give it a go”
Breda Haugh works with hand tools such as saws, pliers, files pliers and hammers to make her jewellery and use a source of heat to solder the pieces together. Always in her studio and happy to show visitors the processes in designing and making jewellery, as she likes to spread understanding and knowledge related to my discipline and will therefore demonstrate a simple process if appropriate, and speak to visitors who may have a particular interest in jewellery.. Due to safety issues it is impossible for visitors to “give it a go”
Our location is very convenient for people travelling from the city centre. Several buses stop just outside the complex, 1, 56a, 77a and 47. Suburban railway is also close, with two stations, Pearse Street and Grand Canal Dock.
