Nicholas in the meadows of Jerpoint park where tradition tells how crusader knights secretly removed the remains from Italy, and brought them back to Jerpoint. The visit to Jerpoint Park also takes you back in time to trace the lost town of Newtown Jerpoint, which was a vibrant town between the periods of 11th to 16th century, when it then fell into decline. In 1839 the remains of the houses were still standing, when it was noted on the ordnance survey maps, but since then, the streets and houses are grassed over, and are partially visible, and is the best surviving example of a deserted medieval town in Ireland.
