Project BAA BAA is a Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture project, which celebrates all things sheep during the month of May.
Project Baa Baa is a unique programme celebrating the cultural, economic and environmental contribution of sheep in Ireland and Europe.
Sheep farmers, researchers and innovators, artists and designers, craft and food producers from across Ireland and Europe will gather in Galway in May 2020, taking Ireland’s agricultural heritage into focus in an EU Congress of Sheep Farming and Associated traditions. These traditions include sheep farming for meat, milk and wool, and the many uses of wool in sustainable products, fashion, art & innovative design.
The cultural programme features historic 1900’s Guild work and contemporary International Tapestry Symposium and Master Workshops at NUI Galway 23-24 May 2020, Wool Fashion at Galway Museum and a Primary Schools SHEEP Project exhibition and Banquet, curated by internationally renowned chef Enda McEvoy, at St Nicholas Church in the heart of the city. Ancient traditional Galway Hookers will sail into Galway bringing wool on the old cargo route from Kinvara to the Claddagh.
The EU Congress events will culminate with a MEAT, DAIRY, WOOL Conference and a Public ‘Living with Sheep’ at Claregalway Castle 29-30 May 2020. Lots to see and do with the Irish ISSA Sheep shearing team, Sheepdog Trials, Pedigree Sheep Breeds, Irish and European food and craft produce, Woollen Mills, Hand Looms, Spinning Weaving & Dyeing Workshops, Sheep Parade, Talks, Demonstrations & Tastings, Family Fun.
EU Sheep Congress guests include key international speakers from farming, research, design and eco innovation and agencies such as IWTO, EU Commission, SLOW FOOD, Teagasc, Fáilte Ireland and Bord Bia.
The conference and symposium, workshops, fashion and banquet events will be ticketed. Everything else is free.
