Architectural History Ireland offer a range of 2½ and 3 hr walking tours exploring Dublin’s history through its architecture and streetscapes.

Dublin’s wonderful medieval, Georgian, and Victorian eclectic architecture informs its history with twentieth century and contemporary architecture bringing the story up to date.

Architectural History Ireland Dublin Tours include:

Dublin’s Architecture – an introduction (3 hrs). Get an overview of Dublin’s rich heritage through this exploration of its medieval, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (Georgian), nineteenth century (Italianate and Victorian eclecticism), modernism and contemporary architecture. This circular tour will take you from Dublin Castle to the cathedral quarters of Christ Church and St Patrick’s, to St Stephen’s Green, Trinity College, the commercial buildings of Dame Street and return to Dublin Castle.

Trinity College Dublin, Parliament Building and Dublin Castle. (2½ hrs). This tour will explore buildings and settings that highlight Dublin’s seventeenth century, Georgian, Regency and later architecture.

Dublin’s Cathedral Quarters (2½ hrs) Dublin’s two medieval cathedrals (in late Romanesque and Gothic style) are in close proximity and offer the possibility of comparing and unpicking their nearly one thousand year old histories and settings.

Dublin’s Contemporary Architecture. (2½ hrs). This tour will examine buildings which demonstrate modesty in scale and a shift towards contextualism in Temple Bar, Trinity College and elsewhere and planned large-scale developments in the Docklands.
